Subject Is the load removed off of the wind turbine when arrestor blows?
Author Sascha Deri

QUESTION:
I have another question about the 3 phase lightning arrestor I have now purchased. When "catching" a lightning strike, does it take the load off the wind genny? With this wind genny it is vital that a load remain on the alternator or the speed of rotation builds until the wind genny self distructs. Is that a potential problem?

ANSWER:
Hello Tor,
Well, I was finally able to get an answer to this issue. The lightning arrestor blows and creates a short to ground which neither shorts out the wind generator nor creates an open circuit situation. So, if it blows due to a direct lightning strike then your wind generator will still operate properly.
